It’s good to be visible, in a good way. Sadly, too many social media posts are cringeworthy. Avoid regret with the three D’s of social media. Be discreet, diplomatic, and dignified.
Discreet
While it’s tempting to criticize and complain, it doesn’t help. Recent research shows that negative venting does not provide relief. It poisons everyone’s mood, including our own. Being discreet protects your readers, and you.
Frankly, that’s why I have a job. I help clients discreetly process their feelings, and we create a positive path forward.
Diplomatic
Children are taught to be nice and caring. That’s diplomacy in a nutshell. Aim to be a Rorschach test. Allow people to see things from their point of view. Everyone likes their viewpoint acknowledged.
Dignified
Self-control and honorable behavior are hallmarks of being dignified. Dignity wraps us in a pleasant and respectful aroma. Can you imagine if everything posted on social media was dignified? How delightful that would be!
Protect Yourself & Others
The 3-D’s of positive social media protect you (and everyone) from the insidious 3-I’s: those mundane posts that are inane, the strident that are irritating, and the belligerent that are insulting. I could share lots of examples, but that would break my own rules (and you’ve seen plenty). Here’s to building lots of positive social media presence!
PS: I hope you have helpful confidant, so you can always be discreet, diplomatic, and dignified in the public square. If not, reach out.
